Critical Care
Cardiac Arrest: Cardiac arrest is a sudden, life-threatening event in which the heart ceases to beat effectively. This may be caused by electrical disturbances in the heart, such as ventricular fibrillation. Without immediate intervention, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation, cardiac arrest can lead to irreversible brain damage or death.
Heart Attack: A heart attack occurs when there is a blockage or reduced blood flow to the heart muscle, often due to a blood clot in the coronary arteries. Symptoms can include severe chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, and nausea. Early medical attention is essential to prevent damage to the heart muscle.
Stroke: A stroke results from a disruption in blood flow to the brain, causing damage to brain cells. Ischemic strokes occur when a blood clot blocks an artery, while hemorrhagic strokes result from bleeding in the brain. Stroke symptoms include sudden weakness, numbness, difficulty speaking, and impaired vision. Prompt treatment can minimize long-term complications.
